About Youth on Track

The Department of Justice funds non-government organisations to deliver the scheme in six locations. Eligible young people are assessed and provided with case management and targeted services that respond to the underlying causes of their offending.

The implementation of Youth on Track follows five key principles.

Principles

The key principles of the Youth on Track model include:

  • intervening earlier to divert young people from the criminal justice system
  • one-on-one case management to manage and support juvenile offenders and those at risk of offending
  • separating treatment from punishment
  • responding to risk and need rather than simply to crime
  • responding promptly to enable a response to an immediate problem.
